	Summary:
	The importance of the architectural conceptual design for achieving profit on residential projects is an unexplored category. In this study, for five different buildings the architectural concept was optimized, without changing other aspects of design. Then the impact of architectural conceptual design on profit was measured by comparing profitability for base and optimized design versions. It has been found that sub-optimal solutions were adopted. Optimized solutions were significantly better (average 4,4%) in terms of profitability. In addition to the profitability analysis, the reasons why optimal architectural concepts are not adopted on projects were explored and suggestions for optimal solutions are provided.
