 Summary:
This paper presents one approach for free vibration analysis of stiffened thin-walled structures. The compound strip method, which uses trigonometric series in longitudinal, and polynomials in transverse direction for approximation of displacement field, is used for analysis. Because of semi-analytical nature of procedure, this method promises more accurate results than purely numerical methods, such as the finite element method. Method improves classic finite strip method via introduction of possibility for modeling thin-walled structures with longitudinal and transverse stiffeners. Influence of stiffeners is introduced through their interface lines via appropriately calculated rigidity and inertial properties. This approach allows efficient calculation of stiffened thin-walled structures without the need for additional degrees of freedom for description of stiffener behavior. Only restriction is that stiffener must be slender beam, whose displacement field can be described through displacement of just one line. Given approach is programmed in software package Wolfram Mathematica with the appropriate numerical example given at the end. Presented method is verified through comparison with commercial finite element package Abaqus.
