 Summary:
Contemporary spatial transformations in cities characterize specific socioeconomic processes in which, like in other urban centres around the World today, are lead by neoliberal investment schemes. Different from the capitals of ex-communist East European countries, smaller and medium size cities have started urban transition processes later, at the very end of 20th century. Among them, urban regeneration of the historic city zones are the most valuable public physical resource suitable for joint public-private ventures in order to start sustainable processes of overall urban transition which on specific way in the region of Central Europe promotes European Capital of Culture project.
