 Summary:
 Ceramic tiles are roofing material which developed for centuries to meet the basic requirements of a tile as an essential covering material. It is certainly the most important and perhaps the most useful decorative and protective element - the crown of the building, which needs to beautify and protect against various weather conditions. This paper will provide a brief overview of the development of ceramic tiles, its modern principal characteristics and the tendency of their further development. Ceramic tiles are certainly building materials for roofing that has existed and are often of significant historic structures and facilities under the protection of culture. It will therefore be given special attention in aspects of reconstruction, rehabilitation, renovation, energy efficiency in buildings and the preservation of existing ceramic roof tiles.
